Be detailed!

Steven Covey wrote in his book, 7 Habits of highly Effective People, to "start with the end in the mind". Steven argued that this is one of the principle for personal success. Surprisingly, this was concluded by Napoleon Hill in his book, Think and Grow Rich, too.

I am not refering to the abstract nature of Law of Attraction, though I never denied the possible existance of such law. In project, being able to think of the end point in detail is crucial. The more detailed, the project manager/engineer is the more issues can be highlighted at the beginning of the project.

Issues that is identified earlier is not a problem. On the other hand, problem is an un-identified and un-controllable issue.

Put the detail in your mind. Scrutinize the proposal, contract, plan or schedule!

I think issue that is identified earlier is still a problem, if nothing was done to solve. Haha, and an un-identified issue is not a problem since it is un-identified, no one knows whether it will exist or not.So what can we do before we identify it?

Hi Tomy,

Thanks for the constructive insight. I think you are telling something that is right from the perspective of problem solver. However, this may not be true from project management point of view.

Again, you are right to say that identified issue that has not been solve is a problem. but it will not be a stumbling block for a project since it can be mitigated or compromise. Hence the project can still go with considering this issue.

Most of the concern in a project come from the unidentified issue that is yet to be considered. Such occurance will impact project schedule and even cost. It might even "kill" the project.

I believe both of our opinion is right from different perspective, i.e. operations vs project management.
